55 Gresham Street

General Demolition delivered an extensive strip out of this 100,000 square foot office building in the City of London.

Project Overview

General Demolition provided the enabling works at this 8-storey, 100,000 square foot building on Gresham Street. The works required a strip-out of all internal finishes, complete removal of steel and glass framed façade and M&E. Additionally, the strip out programme included the withdrawal of incoming electrical and gas supply to the boundary.

The works also included the complete removal of the roof structure, and concrete stair core, forming openings to all floor levels from 7th to lower ground. The team performed all internal demolition using robotic demolition equipment, for example Brokks and diamond sawing cutting equipment.

General Demolition worked closely with follow-on steel and concrete contractors to form new infill and perimeter slab edges. We added steel plates to reinforce the existing steel beams, ensuring structural stability before applying intumescent paint.

Strip out waste management

A combination of hoist, scaffold chute and tower crane removed all arising debris. Roll-on, roll-off skips and 8-wheeled tipper lorries were used to remove over 500 loads of mixed waste.

As a result of our considered waste management process and the advantage of our recycling park, the project achieved 95% recyclability rate.
