General Demolition recognised as the UK’s Climate Champion in construction for 2025

General Demolition has been crowned the winner of the Considerate Constructors’ Climate Champion Award 2025, announced on 21st November the Grand Gala Awards held at London’s Natural History Museum.

This award recognises organisations pushing the boundaries of environmental responsibility, circular-economy leadership and sustainable innovation – principles that define every project delivered by General Demolition. To be named Climate Champion is an exceptional achievement and a milestone moment for our company and team behind each project.

Environmental excellence across every project

Across all of our projects, General Demolition has demonstrated how demolition can actively contribute to environmental progress. At Black Swan in Northampton, the team achieved zero waste to landfill, verifying over 80% of materials for reuse and diverting 631 tonnes of CO₂ emissions through digital asset tracking and modular dismantling. On 21 Glasshouse Street in Soho, an industry-first partnership with Saint-Gobain recovered 36 tonnes of toughened and laminated glass, turning previously hard-to-recycle material into valuable cullet and conserving significant raw resources. Meanwhile, at 110 The Queens Walk (former City Hall), the repurposing and donation of more than 300 tonnes of materials, including carpet tiles, raised access flooring and commercial kitchen equipment, created measurable environmental and social value.
These standout projects, alongside major achievements at Belgrove House, 40 Argyll Street and Queensway Croydon, showcase General Demolition’s commitment to the circular economy. Through careful planning, technical expertise and a reuse-first mindset, GD continues to prove that materials traditionally destined for landfill can instead become catalysts for carbon reduction and community benefit.

Powered by a team committed to a greener future

Sustainability is not a standalone initiative at General Demolition; it is embedded in day-to-day operations. Teams receive specialist training in precision dismantling, material recovery and reuse logistics, supported by partnerships with organisations such as St Catherine’s Hospice, local food banks and reuse specialists. This approach combines forty years of demolition experience with innovation that accelerates the industry’s transition to a lower-carbon, circular future.

“This award is a reflection of the outstanding dedication of our team. Every day, they approach each project with genuine environmental responsibility and a determination to deliver the highest standards for our clients. Their professionalism and commitment are what make achievements like this possible,” said George Stainton, Managing Director of General Demolition.

“We are also deeply appreciative of our clients and partners whose forward-thinking approach and shared ambition for a more sustainable built environment continue to drive progress across our industry.”

General Demolition extends a thank you to the Considerate Constructors Scheme for an exceptional event and for presenting us with this award. We are proud of our ongoing commitment to sustainable demolition, and to have this work celebrated on such a significant platform.
